The Arts Caravan Repertoire – Coming to Your Neighborhood!

Traveling Theatre for Young Audiences – The Arts Caravan comes to You

The Arts Caravan recognizes that our students have lots to say (and some are also taking action) about issues of the day. The Arts Caravan harnesses that energy and interest through short plays that take on timely issues in a comedic way. Sometimes the play is a parody of our world, sometimes it places an unexpected character in our world, sometimes our play is placed in another world or time…Our interactive and fun approach to otherwise serious, complex and often emotional issues is designed to engage children, youth and teens, together with their families, at neighborhood festivals and events, and to translate that engagement into individual action.

Bringing Our Bus to YOUR School, too…

The Arts Caravan will also bring our short, issue-driven plays into the 6th – 12th grade arena. In collaboration with district curriculum specialists the Arts Caravan’s Teaching Artists will select texts, media, etc. that are embedded in the curriculum and use these resources as a basis to create original productions to bring to schools. These productions will directly engage students in their responses to cultural, economic and political issues of their time. Schools will also have the opportunity to use a production as a spring board for students to create their own original work, in response to themes in the production and/or to issues within their school/community. Teachers should contact the Arts Caravan 6-8 weeks ahead of any proposed residency or performance date to ensure sufficient rehearsal time for the Arts Caravan artists to create a custom original piece of theatre. Ask about our residency rates to help your students create their own original plays.

Improv Challenge

Representatives of area non-profit organizations join forces with the Arts Caravan’s professional performers to team up and face off in a hilarious Improv Challenge. Who will be the last team standing to win the cash prize? The Arts Caravan seeks local sponsors to underwrite the cash prize that is split between the winning non-profit and the Arts Caravan. Audiences at area festivals and events play a role too! Participate in what topics, words. actions, etc. are included in the improve and vote with your applause and laughter! If you’re interested in being a participating non-profit organization, let us know! Or, if you’re interested in being a sponsor, let us know too!

Radio Show – Live

Ever wondered how sound effects used to be made for radio shows? Attend one of our live radio shows to discover the secrets of squelching boots, creaking doors, and more! And with an Arts Caravan show, you never know when audience participation is demanded!

Library Bus – Book Giveaway

Our library bus is fully stocked with a wide range of books, comics, and graphic novels donated by local second-hand stores and individuals. At every event children, youth, and teens are encouraged to visit our bus and discover a book for them to keep. And adults are welcome too! Arts Caravan volunteers will help you find a book that’s right for you. At some events, volunteers will also read picture books or chapter books to small groups of children.

Visual Arts

Whenever possible one of our buses will be placed at the disposal of area visual artists and/or museums in order to bring a larger variety of the arts into the communities we serve.
